Plantronics Voyager 855 bluetooth stereo earbud headset for mobile phone
After having tried headsets of both the wired and wireless variety, from various manufacturers, I wanted to try a small/lightweight wireless STEREO headset this time.I’d seen ads for the Voyager when it first became available – but at the time I wasn’t in the market for a new headset, and it was kind of pricey. I’ve been thrilled with the performance/features of this unit since I received Plantronics Voyager 855 Headset. The phone functions are as good or better than the other units I’ve tried (from Jabra and Motorola, for example) – the phone earpiece is tiny, but holds itself in my ear with the supplied gel cushions without needing the optional ear-hook (supplied in the box in a couple of sizes). When you want to listen to music, the second earpiece is attached by a rope-like cord that plugs into the phone earpiece via the ear-hook socket (the ONLY “con”/complaint I have for this unit – you MUST use the ear-hook if you want to listen to both earpieces.) The sound quality is excellent – maybe not up to audiophile standards, but the music is crisp, the bass has power, and the isolation provided by the gel cushions makes it so you can hear the music you’re trying to listen to at a reasonable volume even in somewhat noisy environment. Basic music-player controls are accessible by the small-but-usable buttons on the phone earpiece (next/last track, pause/mute, etc) – and the pause-music-when-phone-rings-then-resume-when-call-ends feature works flawlessly for me. Whether I’m listening to music on my phone (a Motorola Q9c) or on my laptop – the phone headset pairing remains locked to the phone even when I change the music source, and the pause/resume feature works transparently.
